Following a fun pre-wedding shoot earlier in
the year at Camber Sands, it was exciting to be off to photograph this wedding at Durham Cathedral and Lumley Castle recently.
Durham Cathedral is one of the great buildings of
Europe and a World Heritage site. It is
set grandly on a rocky promontory next to the Castle with the medieval city
huddled below and the river sweeping round.
Because it is a working cathedral, there are very few people
who are lucky enough to be able to have their wedding here, so it was well worth
the long drive to be able to be part of this special day. The reception afterwards was held at the
magnificent Lumley Castle Hotel overlooking the River Wear.
The only downside I’m finding recently with wedding
photography is the fact that it’s getting more and more restrictive to take photos
during the service itself. Obviously
this has to be respected but it’s sadly down to the trust being broken by a few
non-professionals assigned for the day who move about and stand anywhere, even
in the pulpit! I make sure I only move when a hymn is being sung and use
no flash as you’ll see in these photos. I used mostly available light to maintain the atmosphere and am delighted with the results - hope you
enjoy them!
All the best,
Roger
